Tawashi (Japanese Scrubbers)

I recently learned about tawashi, which are Japanese scrubbers. They can be made out of any number of materials, but the ones called eco-tawashi are knitted or crocheted out of yarn.

When I started looking for patterns, I was instantly hooked. These projects are so small, they are quick to finish and easy to take along with you. Although not technically tawashi patterns, I have included many small coasters on this page because they make excellent tawashi when stitched up.

The best yarn for these when used as scrubbers is acrylic. If you would rather they be absorbant, you can choose cotton.
